Freedom

Itís not about profits

Itís not about taking

It is about justice

And giving and making.

Itís about who we are

Our present and past

Itís the deeds that we value

The things that can last.

It starts deep within us

It comes from our souls

Itís the stuff that defines us

Our dreams and our goals.

Itís our best link to heaven

When allís said and done.

Itís the good thatís within us

Itís our sky and our sun.

Itís more than our words

And more than our thoughts

And more than our hopes

And more than our oughts.

Itís ourselves looking back

When we look in the mirror

Itís our history our honor

Itís†the things we hold dear.

When we stand all alone

In the silence of night

And hear a voice calling

Or see a faint light.

Itís that moment of truth

When the shroud is pulled back

When †the angels are crying

And weíre under attack.

Itís our inner voice saying

Itís the right thing to do

Itís humanity praying

For me and for you.

When all doubt has been lifted

Though our actions are flawed

We know we are free

In the presence of God.

Love this,it's profound and spiritual. The search for inner peace and enlightment is the greatest challenge we face and beautifully expressed in this poem.

This poem really touched my inner core, because it rings of deep truth, so simple and beautiful, yet deep and powerfully written.
I can only imagine these poetic words comes from a soul who has lived life fully, experiencing what life brings in its path and then taking a step back and using the gift to observe. and express. Thank you!
An award well deserved.

A moving and inspirational piece! Obviously it appealed to the judges who invoked the noted award. If I would be so bold as to suggest two very minor changes... You use the word "all" several times throughout this piece. In two instances I believe it causes a disturbance in the flow of the poem. I am a reader and notice such things. "Itís all things we hold dear." (substitute "the" for "all") and "When all doubt has been lifted" (drop the "all") This will ensure a smoother reading of the poem.

As intelligent human beings, we've always been free within our confines of survivalĖĖsometimes dictated by others from the family to the corporation. Freedom from and freedom to are two entirely different things and often get confused. The fact that we've survived this long means that we have the ability to survive longer.

You've presented some stirring words here.

Ron
