A Cuban Cigar And A Can Of Coors
By La Belle Rouge

Have you ever enjoyed a joke with a ghost? I have, many times.
I can almost hear him laugh.

I thought of you today, Colonel
your wisdom, your objectivity
the way you could bark orders
and still seem like a teddy bear
that sharp intellect and dry wit
artist’s hands, big heart of love
impish man, romantic and playful
always ready for a poetic romp
across the pages of Indian chief
Civil War colonel, dastardly pirate
or dark, frozen Swedish mountains
you were the most wicked vampire
I’ve ever known, except for myself
and I was missing you, My Friend

So in an affectionate tribute
I lit up my imported, Cuban cigar
popped the top on a cold Coors
choked on the thick smoke and
poured the beer on the ground
thinking of you and pondering
”How could he drink this crap?”

I miss him too, very much as I considered him something of a mentor in my fledgling beginnings. I used to smoke (actually chew on) cigars but after 20 years decided it was time to quit. It's been 20 years since I drank Coors too which I also gave up because you are so right....it is crap. Still love real beer though. Patrick

a cuban cigar should never go with a cheap beer but it works great into your poem ...

I would have drunk the beer and thrown the cigar away.
But, I've never seen your ghost.

This is good stuff, great humor and tribute. I like a good cigar and scotch myself.

Belle, you captured the essence of Georg, cutting wit and romantic flourish - he is enjoying this work with a wry smile - I bid you love and peace my dear friend - Jon Michael

Belle, what a great tribute...gotta agree on the cigar, and I'd
probably exchange the coors for a heinikin. This work taints of
shades of Hemingway...well done.

Cheers,
Dan

Has it really been two years now?
I think of him often as well.
Always ready with a quip review or poetry over the full spectrum from frivolously fun to seriously classic.
I do miss him, but as Georg himself would say, "Better him than Me."

Love,

Walt

Ha, ha! I'm with you. I certainly don't like beer and that a good cigar tastes like I'm in a burning apartment about to be asphyxiated with something by the end of my tongue.

Still, the romantic image of the Colonel lives on.

I knew by the title that you were thinking of our dear old Brother Georg Edvard. A.D. just isn't the same without him, and it's hard to believe that he left us nearly two years ago now. And now, I'll be thinking of him too.

Hah! Can't import those Cuban's, you have to smuggle them in, and I'd love to have a cold can of Coors Light right about now. Guess this cheap California burgundy will have to suffice. Enjoyed!!!
