Acrylic on canvas - by djl

The drum of White Swan
sounds low
in distance
each sweep
spreading shape shadow
over hooved ones
over prarie
sweet alyssum

lowering deep
into vales unnatural
gored by Iron Hand's
black jagged teeth

songless valley
hears no rhythm

her Spirit strains
against the darkness
rising up
on hallowed wing
wanting nothing
more than this
her sacred drumming

To venture into a fantasy perception of connection and perpetual life such as this piece does for me, is to take on an inordinate risk. You've not only handled it well, you've avoided the myriad clichés that usually accompany writings of the genre. Well done and another example of your eclectic ability to venture out of the box. As you know, I deem that the only way to go. Far too many poets are
"on trick ponies."

Very beautiful painting and poem. I sense sadness in the drums beating low.

I am fortunate in that I am surrounded by such fantastic poets. Every day I get to read some of the best poetry in America. Thank you, Diana for being in that very select group.

A beautiful bird so graceful having to
soar over what man has made, a gift to
man but not to this beautiful creature.

Lovely Diana
