my lady and I have talked of this before and decided to write it down

Greb stood on the Drakkars prow
seax hung from about his waist
a leather cone helmet worn.
"Land" he shouted back to the crew
of Norsemen gone a viking
and thier longboat headed ashore.

Druid Kirke of blue gray stones
crowning the hill over the shore
this Irish hamlets tower.
Boat beached, men scramble for plunder
townsfolk do flee in terror
through melee Greb sees the priestess.

A comely tjener in white
long dark tresses blomst in her hair
and eyes the color of green.
He called her Julesalme by name
and took her as his own prize
back in Selme, he took her wife.

Monks now roam this northern land
and Julesalme preferred it
to old Asgards cold hard ways.
Then the viking that cost her, him
he caught that spear in his back
his final words to her "Goornott"

I'm from Newfoundland...and the Vikings have a deeply rooted history on my beautiful island in the North Atlantic...there's a place called L'anse aux Meadows...that's been preserved as a heritage's where the Vikings landed centuries ago...Nicely done, Budd...

A strange poem, Budd, with a witty ending. I, for one, wouldn't like to live in those times. Too many pregnacies and no antibiotics and anaesthetics for a start. Cheers

Emerald, the green of her eyes and emerald isle, a brute tale of love and life, now and then, a most gifted rendition, I enjoyed it much, this could become a book, Budd, or even a movie, bless ya!

Succinct tale of a mythology/reality we seldom get a chance to read about. Throughout, the edges of each phrase were honed sharp, cutting your story clean and memorable. Well done.

Your Lady inspires you to a great variety of beautiful poetry.
This time a rough viking story.
But always with a touch of love and romance
and she always finds herself back in it with her green eyes

Very well done Budd

You are quite the well-rounded writer. You are also romantically inclined and easily cover your audience in the right moods. You are gifted with talent, Budd. I throughly enjoyed reading the daring romantic work..Keep your pen flowing with its magic ink...

What a lovely tale from the days of yore
So far back visions that were seen and
experienced. Vikings were a rowdy lot
during that time, pillaging and taking
what they will. They were explorers,
merchants, pirates, and traders...

They have been romanticized in Old Norse tales...
this one I like very much and the parting word "Goornott"
which means literally "go not".

He captured himself a lovely bride :)

Wonderful Budd
