ballad for billy song lyrics
by Joel Sattler

I wake up in the morning
in a state of disbelief
I go to bed at nighttime
with a thousand petty griefs

if I only had a hammer
I would make myself a nail
if I could do the crime
then I would throw myself in jail

the time is coming when I will
no longer have a choice
I might as well go singing
long as I still have a voice

I'll open up the treasure
and unlock all of the locks
and see if I remember
where I put God in a box

the spaceman told me he
could get me tickets for the stars
but I only had the money
to make it up to Mars

I tried to make a symphony
of all that I had heard
but when it came to opera
I couldn't say a word

and when I broke the record
I was flying round the world
and gave up all my acrobating
for a little girl

so let this be a lesson
don't get lost in the unknown
it's better to be happy
than to laugh aloud alone

and when you're faced with darkness
and you're drawing your last breath
remember that there are some things
that are much worse than death

but as for me you see
I must be carrying this load
as I go down the infinitely
endless open road

yesterday I knew my place
and what I want of life
today I know each moment
balances on edge of knife

and every battle is
the battle of the Alamo
cause in the end there will be
no one left as well you know

the post apocalyptic
nightmare surely is a myth
cause after all is said
and done there'll be no kin or kith

our only hope is give them rope
and hope they hang themselves
before they take the rest
of us down to a living Hell

cause Heaven's only in your mind
and what you want to see
the Holy Ghost is someone that
you'd never want to be

and when the seventh seal is opened
horns begin to blow
and though you try escaping
there'll be no where you can go

the planet is your mother
and the sun is made of light
do not go gentle into
that good hurricane of night

so if you listened closely
then you guessed the secret key
but if you do I ask you true
don't say it came from me....

Witty and well-written. At once lends itself to a strumming acoustic guitar, and, perhaps, some floating fiddle lines. Also enjoyed the reference to the Book of Revelation. Peace to you ...
