This is a picture of beautiful Bay St. George, Newfoundland, my home town is right at the end of that ray of sun....sigh...

In plain sight…
All of the treasures of the universe
Were scattered about the earth!
Precious gifts as enduring as time itself…
Lavished freely upon even the most undeserving,
Right there in front of me, and yet
I was sightless, blindly racing into tomorrow…
Always looking ahead oblivious to it all.
Hindsight my crutch, I leaned heavily upon it
In the search for that place where I fit…
And the world kept spinning faster
Gaining momentum with each passing year!

Then one day twilight years began creeping onto a horizon
That had only yesterday seemed endless.
And like an old friend, clarity gently embraced me
Lifting the veil that shrouded my sight.
Now I see the splendour in glorious crimson sunsets,
The majestic radiance in brilliant shimmering rainbows;
The infinite facets of white clouds in a heavenly azure sky!
I feel the promise in springtime; the ecstasy in an ocean breeze;
I hear the rhapsody of birdsongs, the sweet sound of trees
Whispering in the forest near a fragrant meadow
And as I touch the earth, every one of my senses tells me
This is where I belong, and it was right here all along…in plain sight.

Truly an uplifting sharing, Anna; what a wonderful way of having one's eyes opened to the beauty that the rushe of "making a living" often makes one miss. Love and best wishes,

I always felt (even though I was born and raised and lived most of my life here in Nova Scotia) that I was a Newfoundlander. My mother was a loyal Newf till the day she died and we grew up on the sounds of Newfie songs and a diet that often centered around meals such as fish and brewis. You captured your home well...

I read generosity in these lines, starting with the title and last three words, continuing with: "Lavished freely upon even the most undeserving," Generosity showed in confessing unawareness before the realization appeared. I like "Hindsight my crutch, I leaned heavily upon it" and enjoyed the verbal sculpting of "Then one day twilight years began creeping onto a horizon". Lovely piece in my eyes. ~~ Diana

Your vision is marvelous. There are so many wondrous things in plain sight, yet so many today seem to be blind, and so many don't even realize when we lose them.

Beautiful, beautiful words, my friend. What a longingly lovely picture your words paint; both as a figurative and a spiritual picture this place of yours... My pleasure would be to someday see it... along with my new wife and quite possibly with my friend Anna.

Just wonderful insights here. Maturity is the process of learning to appreciate what is in plain sight.
