Turn the Tide
I would not be a fool if love and respect were things I grew.
I would be no party’s lackey if to my own heart I am true .
I love our flag, our people and our endangered laws, strong and fair.
I pray for those who somehow aren’t quite yet getting there.
I would not by want invest in wasting precious caring thoughts.
Neither would I grant a sum of effort leading up to naught.
Some few things are worth a great price and not so free.
My mind perceives, sometime, first, must come our country!
When sacrifice is spoken of in speeches grave and broad
About the cures we must endure, crowds break with loud applause.
Does anyone actually pause and picture life without the safety net?
Still, my money’s on our fortitude in challenges not yet met.
Our Father’s Son took to the cross so our sins He could forgive.
Our fathers and theirs, worked and sweated blood to give this precious gift.
Yet here right on the very land we steward so poorly to our shame.
It’s everyone else, the other party, the other guy to blame.
We have an opportunity to take a challenge like the greats back then
And turn the tide just as all who’ve served and died, and when
Their babies raise their sweet faces up and look us in the eye
We can say it isn’t perfect. Human never was. But with God, Nigh is nigh.
