Back in the Shadows

I'm back in the shadows
looking for a nonexistent name
my yin is mysteriously flaccid and silent
absorbing everything
allowing it to fulfill itself as in repast
depression ripped the petals
from the honest that was my face
my smile a parched caricature
of what it used to be
remembering crumpled notes
left in squalid hotel rooms
words written in desperation
loses its impact
in the folds and tucks and crumple
then read by absolute strangers
in the light of day
by then the notes
comes off as contemptible
ah, the horrifying splendor which is life
bewildering and confusing
it shouldn't be that way
I blame it on yin
I never, ever speak of yang

A powerful read! We are all made of shadow and light; the trick is to not dwell in the dark for long because the light is where much happiness is found.

Ah but you do speak of yang, you just do yin so well.
Write in the dark but stand in the light.

Here lives some unique language: "depression ripped the petals/from the honest that was my face". This effectively provided 'atmosphere' of place and happening. Visually crisp with the notes then read by strangers, and that eludes to the absolute stranger's imagination adventure conjured by the reading. Quite a flourish in the ending two lines. ~~ Diana

Yin belongs to Yang
not wise to seperate
*Jerry*..surely you
weave to restore
with faith of not
repeating the bad
and ugly?

"back in the shadows" hmmm a choice of the mind
however an interesting reflection of what once
was and how you stand above everything.
"then read by absolute strangers" a lesson for
those absolute strangers of what struggles were
then a history marker of sorts.

What an interesting write Jerry, where you dug
deep into what once was as a reflection of how
you once were.

But my King has risen above everything and can
squash all this and stomp it to the ground!
Now he can retain balance :)

Absolutely wonderful Jerry, your talent in
writing to grasp and show us "of what
it used to be" is always remarkable.

Powerful write, Jerry...some of us may have darker shadows than others, but we all have them.....the thing is not to let those shadows consume.......very nicely penned...

Jerry, you're a man who has seen everything in the world
Never allow yourself to go back in the shadow
Yin does not exist without Yang, they belong together
So speak of Yang as well

I just finished your book “Misdemeanors & Felonies: A memoir” and I’m very impressed
As someone knows how much Yin and Yang belong together, it’s you

a bleak view that speaks too often
and too well to me, Jerry, but there
is the smallest light relief in your final words
