Erosion is commonplace along the coast of Southern California, and at certain places, continues in multiple forms.

La Jolla's Machiavelli

Years in the future
After temperature cycles
Have turned again
Rendering the world's water
Once more secured in ice
There will eventually melt and emerge
The quintessential example
Of a once starry-eyed human anomaly

The mind-wreckage of a beached id
An indulgent instinctual force of self-centered importance
A way of life centered on vacuous awareness
A swirling denouement of greed's ultimate message

Adrift

Desolate trappings
A stranded boat dock
Erupted drainage pipes of aberrant waste
Concrete and razor wire caltrops of anti-paparazzi defenses
Multiple luxury crafts grounded and upended
A swirling flotsam of human and Rodeo Drive remains
Held in arrhythmic motion
Despotic spoil heaps of extravagant fantasy
A modern palace foundation left with only one ocean view
Its own festooned 4-car elevator-pampered garage

One must hope
As Nature thaws
So too might the icy unconscious

You've said quite a bit here, and it's all quite powerful, especially the "4-car elevator-pampered garage."

We unnecessarily test our ability to adapt mentally or physically as the more things change and yet stay the same. and we forget some things damaged can not be repaired.

enjoyed the multiple entendres here, endless really.. also your language has an intelligent structure and tone making the read not only mentally stimulating but a genuine read, so many poems i have to stop and prop and re-read for all the wrong reasons but this was consumed without hesitation, really enjoyed.

You have a unique and compelling style with which to convey your message. You distill so much into so few words that paraphrasing is indeed difficult, so I won't make the attempt. Suffice to say that the images and impressions that your words induce resonate strongly and are totally lucid. This is the art of poetry art its best.

One of your best, in my opinion. The thawing will unearth much as you have listed here and even more, of course, that you omitted. The future humans (or whatever they will be calling themselves by then) will have much to fondle and lift and nudge and muse over concerning their own history written by we in this young century. They will nod their heads, grunt and say, "Huh?" Proving yet again that no one pays any attention to history and continues making the same mistakes over and over and . . .
