 Once Upon a Time

Karen Hecht Springer

I loved you, once

Brown eyes sparkling and matching your wit

A brainiac who quoted Gandhi

And Green Day in the same sentence

I knew

I knew…

And I

Well I was a shy idealist

Wanting to heal the world

But neglecting the needs of my own heart

As it shattered in pieces of shell

Self blame will do that

I bled

I bled…

The chances I had

Looking back

The way you looked at me

The talking never ending

You knew

You knew…

And so

And so…

And…so…?

and so...we learn...do we not? we either fail to begin or end up failing in the search for the elusive self-worth that is involved in finding or losing Love. We may just put too much stock in others...when we should invest in ourselves. This work of yours captures the beauty of that process while seeking an answer for the confusion in relationships. If only we knew then.

What an effective and fluid style you have, Karen. Catches my attention like a bright yellow leaf in the wind....seasoned, graceful, airborn. ~~ Diana

Your words express a timeless and universal theme of this world/life, Karen. Thank you. Love and best wishes,

I agree with Jerry . I also think you should never look back because it is self defeating in purpose, and similarly I don't think you should ever leave your heart at the mercy of any one person.

Talk is cheap. What wisdom was in this brainiac? Lessons have been learned about life.

Looking back, we sometimes are harder on ourselves than we should be. Also, we are not the same person as the one we're looking back was. We learn from the mistakes of that person, hopefully.
