Old Brown Dog

Dogs can give us direct observation lessons in staying grounded....literally. This sketch is called "After Bath" and is Merlin The Great, the 13-year-old Mastiff/Sharpei we are care-giving. He is the antithesis of lonely.

 Old brown dog

muzzles through grass

a while before

plunking big body down

flat

head to ground

one side up

sunnyside

white ascot flashing

needing and wanting nothing.

Eh, I don't know that animals have "learned" the fact that they are happy as they are, but they can, quite obviously learn to be happier around those that care for and love them. Great, great sketch. Gotta love it!

Such is the essence of "being" for its own sake. Animals seem to have learned that well, while we seem to be forever looking for either physical or mental adornment to keep us aware of our "being." How little it takes, however, for the writer to create word adornment that is both self serving and beneficial for readers needing and wanting nothing, yet open to unexpected gifts.
