Today, September 10th is our 29th Wedding Anniversary. We were so broke back then, I wrote this poem. Enjoy! |

You say you love me that I know.
What really matters is how it shows.
At times I get the same old song,
My way’s right and you are wrong.
Now we have the extra stress
Of little money~what a mess.
Bills unpaid, “we can’t afford,”
Too often strike a painful chord.
What I need to say is this,
Money first~hit or miss,
A life together happy or sad.
Please hang in there just be glad,
Together we have a lasting strength,
Love that brings extended length.
I’d rather have your friendship in hand
Than the most extravagant wedding band.

My wife and I married on the cheap. It was probably a good thing, because it didn't last too long, only three years. We even divorced cheaply… $200.
Money certainly leads to arguments in a marriage, but I don't think it has much bearing on how long the marriage lasts. You poem and your marriage is proof of that.

That was sweet! If I remember correctly, our bands were $9. So we bought them, but didn't hire an organist because that would cost $15. Hey, it took! So, maybe you CAN live on love!
