written 4 months after my gran passed

And she went to be with Jesus
Saved by grace through faith
She waited ‘til I was gone
To be sure I’d be okay

My mind tells me to keep on going
My soul is filled with anguish
For I lost the one who loved me
Both unconditionally and always

She was my stability
In my hope and my despair
And sometimes late into the night
I wish that I was there

For all life is sorrowful
And in the end is pain
Pain is all there is in being
For those who still remain

This poem reminds me of my own grandmother, may she rest in peace. Their life and love defines us, and even in their absence, they are never truly gone.

of course there's pain, Beth,
and the sense of loss will stay with you
for a long time, i believe it never really
goes away;
your heart is in these words
