Autumn in the Air

I feel autumn in the air.
Soon the trees and grasses
Will trade
Their summer shades of green
For a patchwork explosion
Of reds and golds;
Lingering on the crisping air
Will come the scent
Of burning leaves,
And we will trade our shorts
Our flip flops,
And our swimming suits
For coats,
For warm woolen scarves
And for mittens.
Halloween will arrive
Amid a shrieking plethora
Of corn mazes
And haunted houses,
Followed soon after
By Thanksgiving,
And Black Friday
Will lead us
Into winter
And the busy-ness
Of Christmas.
Autumn is a time
Of family,
Of children behaving
As children,
And for celebrating
Our bountiful harvest
Of blessings.
Is it any wonder
That it vies with spring
On my list
Favorite things?

You covered my list of things that make autumn great. Unfortunately, most of that season is lost around here and I miss it dearly.

Fall is my favorite time of year because of everything you expressed in the poem. I loved it.

Yes indeed, Rebecca, autumn is darn near here. It is my favorite season, probably because it starts getting rid of the really hot temperatures that summer give us. Nicely written poetry.
