It's the leaving of Liverpool that grieves me.

Throw me a line, I’ve got nothing coming through,
Tell me I’m fine, and I’ll believe you.
Give me a hand, you’ve got nothing to lose,
Tell me life’s grand and that’s what I’ll choose.

Then I’ll go back where I came from,
Back where I belong.
To where the river flows black velvet
And the rich man’s always wrong.

Show me the friend who’s one of the few,
Who likes to talk, but then he listens too.
Show me the man with a smile on his face,
Who doesn’t understand what it is to hate.

Then I’ll go back where I came from,
Back to what I lost,
To where the river flows black velvet
And your best friend’s never the boss.

Tell me the sum of one plus one,
Tell me what’s gone and what’s to come.
Explain if you can what money can do,
Tell me it’s planned and I’ll laugh at you.

Then I’ll go back where I came from,
To the factories and the docks.
To where the river flows black velvet
And the girls wear last year's frocks.

J'aime la chanson. Elle n'a pas pris une ride. Elle est mélodieuse. C'est comme se laisser porter par le courant de la rivière quand soudain jaillit une vague de souvenirs qui déferlent en un torrent d'émotion...sourire....

I love the meanings and the nostalgia in this write, Paddy. It makes me think of places, times, people, and things lost... ...but not forgotten. Love and peace to you,

Regis
