Strong.

That’s how I’ll remember you.

Not like now, not like this.

 

Once you had such a strong voice. 

Stating your opinions as fact,

challenging anyone to disagree.

Fairly grumpy, always particular.

Dare I say it, even at times belligerent. 

 

Now your voice is a whisper of uncertainty and fear.  

Barely heard under a barrage of beeps and clicks

from machines that measure your every ounce of life.

Do the machines care? Do they have sympathy?

No... They measure. Keeping watch in their own way.

Telling us what we already know. 

Stating reality in numbers and graphs.

 

Strong. 

That’s how I’ll remember you.

Not like now, not like this.
