Just a contemplation on the way we create our own reality.

Faces

Making the face we get

starts with amoretto cheeks

beneath storybook eyes

silken strands draped across the brow

curious noses

innocent lips

Upon canvases so pure

strokes the brush of time

dips into the palette of reality

layering change upon change

Colors

some untainted

others muddy

Drying

Cracking

Flaking

What of these faces

One’s personal artwork

now retired to Life’s attic

propped up on walls that shelter memories

when faces knew not mirrors

expressions were for their own sake

and manufactured masks were only reserved for make-believe

Both mine were putto rosy for several years in the beginning. Now (more often than not) they're covered with white stubble and the occasional purulent pustule. And don't forget about those adolescent dimples we had (at least I did) so deep one might plant a flower in them. haha. As far as your artwork, (face?) Odinsan, being retired in Life's attic... well... I could mount a defense against that, poet, but I'm too tired from the hike we just got back from. A multi-layered potpourri here that lends itself nicely (IMO) to varyed interpretations. You are the metaphor King. Peace ...

Much could be unpacked from this piece, Odin. It is a trunkful. "...the face we get" hints of the last line "....for make-believe," knowing not mirrors, and what is changed upon change of that created reality. Your choice of 'amoretto' and 'storybook' are superb, as is "What of these faces" Most excellent of all for me: "expressions were for their own sake." What an eye you have, and what a skill you have in writing what your eye absorbs and creates anew. ~~ Diana
