Societal views wrap around our unique beauty, weighing it down so that it burdens and ultimately destroys our soul


 Dark and haunting wisps of air/entangled in the willow's hair/their fickle streams cumber the sheath/forcing her to bow her head/and weep

Pure artistry, so beautiful that it overpowers meaning. My feeble brain cannot see the connect with the opening statement. Perhaps there is some hidden message there that I cannot understand.

Although I like your poem and its message, Shirley, I think it would be more effective if you were to go ahead and release the breaks into simple lines.
