I read somewhere today,
something which caused an avalanche
of pain and such heartfelt aches,
I needed to come here for my say
I read somewhere today
about a seller of lures,
a writer of great magnitude,
hero, man, husband, father.
I read somewhere today,
spiteful words, grubby words
from a hater of patriots,
and the red, white and blue.
I read somewhere today,
that only those with so-called
"grandiose" calling can truly
think of themselves as a poet.
I read somewhere today
that a little poem about
beautiful flowers are, null and void,
mediocre poetry from fishwives.
I read somewhere today
that only instigating rhetoric,
tearing down the good
is deemed acceptable literary form.
I read somewhere today
a sunset or sunrise or tenderness
is not beautiful, no, because
there are no four-letter words.
I shall give you four-letter words
love - for a man and a woman
kiss - to seal a loving bond
baby - the result of that kiss
rose - soft petals, prickly stalks, as life.
I read somewhere today
that names were bandied about
and frenzied, nasty words
said, spiteful things were said.
I read somewhere today
of Bukowski, who is embalmed,
sans embalming fluid,
screaming to dead ears of his wrong.
I read somewhere today
that heroin flowed freely, still
in the collapsed veins of
William Burroughs, the fool.
I read somewhere today
poets are smelly, drug-induced
misfits with heavy accents
and hate within their hearts.
I read somewhere today
of a sad and lonely soul
whose claim to fame he desires
is belittling others.

Belitting others is a sign of weakness and an inner dislike of self. Waste not a minute on people who think they are making themselves bigger in scope while tearing down another. Your words of wisdom flow beautifully in this poem, Jerry. Very well done!

You're able to make in a great style your point about whatever you have to say.
Whoever is concerned in this poem, let he read it over and over again.
Great job Jerry |

I love your four letter words which so many forget about or perhaps have never truly experienced therefore rendering them angry and spiteful.
Love ya!

Immediately, I thought of, “I read the news today. Oh boy! the British army had just won the war…” But then I read further and gathered that you find the landscape of so-called “great” poets littered with miscreants and misfits like Edgar Allen alcoholic Poe. While I don't read a lot of poetry and don't particularly like the flowery kind, I tend toward the beautiful and ironic. Robert Frost comes to mind.
Since poetry seems to be so tied up in psychology, academic centers that focus on poetry find the psychology of the weird poets much more enlightening than “roses are red, violets are blue.”

A poet looks at different angles of life or slices
and we write about them as we see fit...kind of like
reporting the news only our version is more indepth
with various emotions...Very Good,Jerry... |

Somewhere today I chose to only read the beautiful
prose and poetry of those who know how to express
beautifully all their thoughts, inspirations and
desires. Because somewhere today I will find my
wonderful friend doing this magnificent job here
on AD
Because somewhere today he will show the world
that the true meaning of beauty and souls lies
in their words and explain what is true through
beautifully penned four letter words:
"I shall give you four-letter words
love - for a man and a woman
kiss - to seal a loving bond
baby - the result of that kiss
rose - soft petals, prickly stalks, as life."
Because somewhere today this man can express
all he knows about life from young beginnings
to wise words.
Wonderful Jerry

There are some who simply cannot say anything positive...they thrive upon belittling others....living in the negative....what a waste of life.....You sure gave the reader lots to ponder here, Jerry....nice work!

| Jerry, I read somewhere today, to borrow someone I admire's words, phrases and lines and all kins of words, that proves that "sad and lonely" soul so wrong and cannot be a happy person. I will pray for him, as I pray for your continued growth. I feel like we are simultaneously going through a significant growing spurt. I hope you don't find that a presumptuous thing to say. Good job. Be well, Kathy |
