How some women fool themselves into thinking an abuser will change. Its rare that they do. If you are in this kind of situation, GET OUT before its too late for you.

He don't mean to hit me
He said he would stop
He said he was sorry
He even told the cop

He's under alot of stress
So much pressure in his life
No one else to take it out on
Except his loving wife

No, I won't press charges
Though he's hurt me before
I know him better than anyone
He won't hit me anymore

So he drinks a little beer
And it makes him mean
He can be so sweet...
Life isn't always what it seems

He tells me that he loves me
And I take his hand
He won't hit me anymore
Why can't you understand

Your poems says much for the women who live in such an existance. Many should leave. It's not worth the torment and abuse they go through..Well said!...M

oh, Linda, I am breathless. This issue is such a problem. My ex hit me once and I had him hauled off to the military cop shop. Next day he was on his knees. It takes so much courage to believe that he WILL hit again and to turn and leave. To commit to something entirely against what you thought you had committed to. If you have gone through this, I am sorry that you did, and hope it is over.

the directness of expression
is what makes this poem real and so
very worthwhile - it speaks directly
and intimately to the reader and hits home..
all assault is horrible and so many women
and some men suffer terribly;
fine work, Linda, thank you

Well done Linda - get the word out!

No human being nor any animal deserves this kind of treatment. There is just nothing good about it. Get out now! Then seek help for the other person so they will not hurt another in this way ever again.

Peace, love and blessings,

no way out, but there is help. It takes a lot of
courage.

Linda, thank you for sharing this with your authorsden! Abuse is a terrible thing male or female and needs more awareness to be made known! I pray escape for anyone that has encountered this and relief is on the way for them.

Thanks again!
