“Gardenia mornings”

sometimes it seems…I only wait for the spring to come
to awaken to those mornings when gardenias fill the air
so I can think of you just as clearly as if you were here
where I hold you in the dawn when the sun begins its climb
to listen to the ocean as it thunders destiny within its waves
believing deeply that you hear the echoes that I also hear
subtle is that gardenia when it settles in for the cooler night
but I can count on its reminders of dreams we have shared

sometimes it seems…that I can only dream from far away
and yet I know that it becomes a mirage on a sandy beach
while I await for your arrival and an embrace from long ago
that does not disappear or dissipate in the windblown mist
reverberating gently in the once empty chambers of my heart
while your soul passes through me leaving me with a smile
and a tingling left by your fingertips that have laced my neck
simultaneous with the taste of a maraschino kiss upon my lips

sometimes it seems…as if I was meant to dream of such things
that tear me away from solid ground where the roots entwine
of a blooming gardenia that grows fondly in a special place
reserved for those precious moments that you and I often share
in a garden that we traverse from west to east as we breathe
sighing as we close our eyes and imagine what love means
when we only meet in dreams and whisper each others name
during those gardenia mornings well before the year must end

Oh, Amor! This is m e s m e r i z i n g. So like the startlingly sensuous and impossible to describe scent of a gardenia. Glows like one! Not that I am telling you anything, but it is also very much in keeping with the fading line between poetry, prose poetry, and 'sudden' or 'flash' fiction. Fiction may not fit. Reads like mini-memoir.:)

Love the passion that comes through and the fluidity(for lack of a better term).

Thank you, my friend, thank you.

... like one, long, lovely exhalation of love and consciousness before taking in the next wonderful breath of the gardenia's enduring scent and spirit-laden, memory-filled fragrance. I think our olfactory sense is the most acute when it comes to recreating images of people, time and place. Fabulously flowing and yet tightly controlled writing that is wrought from a profound well and life-spring of experience and longing. Just beautiful, Amor! xx
