To man's best friend.

 Unconditional Love

He’s large and he’s shaggy
Our neighborhood dog
He moans when he walks
Like a creaky old log.
But his age is a blessing
For all greeters to see
You know you are welcome
His eyes say “pet me.”

You cannot resist
A few vigorous strokes
And he thanks you profusely
And smiles at your jokes.
Yet each day’s a bit different
As he wiggles with glee
It’s all for the better
And his lessons are free.

You know that he’s changed you
As you quicken your pace
Your step’s a bit firmer
There’s a smile on your face.
Your troubles are gone
For a moment at least
The things that upset you
Have all been released.

This mobile mood changer
Has done it again
He’s turned an old grouch
Into a friendlier friend.
He just sets the pace
Not the pathway of history
Though he does surprisingly well
With life’s much bigger mysteries.

You know he’s your friend
In good times or bad
He lifts up your spirit
And erases the sad.
He’s a heaven sent gift
Wrapped in long hairy dressing
He’s an angel of love
And he’s always a blessing.

Edward,

I found this poem delightful. It is so true how the love of an animal can change your demeanor, whether it for a moment or a life time.

They are a true blessing, indeed. And I don't think life would be as good, without them by our side.

Angel of love!! Absolutely!! I have three POMS that rock my world! They dance with me, wake me when a stranger comes around, sleep soundly on my lap when I am exhausted, and are excited to see me when I come home from work! Can't get any better than this!..hahah

Oh what joy they fill my soul!

Thanks Edward! Loved it!

All these dog lovers here need to gather around and give you a great big hand! This one tugs at my heart and shows yours.
