AUTUMN song lyrics

by Joel Sattler

when first I met you

twas in the late fall

when the trees were red and gold

and the blue high over all

and the air was so clear

and a crystalline sky

I was happy in holding

your hand warm in mine

and the only fear I had inside my heart

was that you might turn away

but need not should have worried

because here you are today

autumn oh autumn

so new and so true

spring is only half as much

as wonder as you

oh autumn oh autumn

my love is like the sun

shining down in joy and glorious

to each and every one

as years go on by

and we grow frail and old

holding on to each other

through winter and the cold

we faced life together

as we shall face death

and I promise to kiss you

even with my last breath

the fire grows darker

as we fall into the night

we are blessed with the knowledge

we had a good life

autumn oh autumn

so new and so true

spring is only half as much

as wonder as you

oh autumn oh autumn

my love is like the sun

shining down in joy and glorious

to each and every one

I found myself almost singing along. Unlike the sad refrains like September Song, , this one has an uplifting theme throughout. A pleasant change of mood.
