We have not been able to camp as much as we hoped when we bought our camper but I think it makes us just appreciate it all the more. It is truly another world out there.

The Day is Born

It is quiet.
I awake to hardly any sound at all.
I pour a cup of coffee and
step out of the camper
into dark, forested lakeside
peaceful bliss.
I sit in my special camping chair
with my special brew and I wait.
I wait to hear the swell of life
awaken in the dawn’s rise…
the gradual proof that I am not alone.
I begin to realize the lapping
edges of the lake
have been gently splatting
upon the sand all along.
Now I hear it.
The light begins to grow, slowly,
unfolding like a prayer,
a great miracle that
shows me God.
Birds begin to sing.
Squirrels and other creatures rustle
through the undergrowth of the trees.
The camper door swings open
and I see my love is now awake.
His coffee leads him down the steps
to his special camping chair, next to mine.
I am filled with joy.
We can witness it together.
He is just in time.
The day is born
and we restfully rejoice.
