Autumn
From Canada to the Carolinas
From Maine to Mexico
And across the vast expanse of
Europe and Asia
The season of wonder is upon us.
It’s in the air that hint of winter
When the breeze chills but does not bite
When the summer winds have
Blown away the heat of day
And the passions of night.
It’s the season of visual wonders
The time when Nature shows us
Her magic and masterful touch.
In sweeping strokes of colors
From reds to greens to browns
And oranges and yellows
She transforms the landscape
Beyond the skills and beyond the
Imaginations of all in her domain.
It’s in the leaves.
Oh those crispy crunchy
Swirling twirling cascading
Reminders of youth and of
Memories and of dreams fulfilled.
We kick them and rake them
And extract from them all
That the summer offered -
And did not offer.
Did we do enough?
Did we dream enough?
Did we lift our spirits high enough?
Are we riding the wave of life
Or are we bracing for yet another
Setback?
When finally the trees are barren
And the magic has slipped away
We are left without answers.
Still we carry forward our old
Hopes and new dreams into the
Next cycle knowing
Our hides are tougher our spirits stronger
And a new wave of life lies just
Beyond the horizon.
