Care Pressed Me Down
By Karen Hecht Springer
Care pressed me down
With all its might
Yet softer than a shadow’s whisper
I was so passively dismissed
During the waxing and waning of the moon
Left unable to breathe
Not seeing, not believing
And here I sit with nothing
Hands bound behind back
Invisible shackles on wrists
Tears fall as the dawn of a new day
Brings fresh stabs to an already broken spirit
But as I cry
I realize
I do have something after all
Because I still feel
Care pressed me down
But it has not yet won
