"When care is pressing you down a bit - rest if you must; but do not quit."

Care Pressed Me Down

By Karen Hecht Springer

Care pressed me down

With all its might

Yet softer than a shadow’s whisper

I was so passively dismissed

During the waxing and waning of the moon

Left unable to breathe

Not seeing, not believing

And here I sit with nothing

Hands bound behind back

Invisible shackles on wrists

Tears fall as the dawn of a new day

Brings fresh stabs to an already broken spirit

But as I cry

I realize

I do have something after all

Because I still feel

Care pressed me down

But it has not yet won

care makes us human. it is one of those indispensible aspects of our lives. we must just learn how to manage it.

There is an indomitable spirit that resides within Man that will neither quit or give up.Cares can cast us down at times, but if we reach within we will find the greatness and splendor to bounce right back again

Excellent and feeling write

Powerfully meaningful and emotive; I think many will relate to what you express via your verses here, Karen. Thank you. Love and best wishes,

I read this to be a very muscular writing. Even with the words 'soft,' 'whisper,' and 'passively,' there counters 'might,' 'hands bound,' 'shackles,' and care pressing down, with a feeling of balance between the two poles, by the end of the poem. I appreciate the power in these phrases: "Left unable to breathe," "And here I sit with nothing," (that is so large a concept), "...a new day/Brings fresh stabs..." with the largest piece of all -- the ability to feel being something valuable, regardless of which polar end in which the feeling resides. Lots of substance in this poem, Karen. ~~ Diana
