Walking In Fallen Woods

With summer over

Fall is here

Winter is near

I went walking in the woods

I came to a river of words

No one had ever heard

I could not speak

So I called out to a bird.

First the scavenger

The eagle

But he thought of himself to regal

Next the hawk

But he too would not talk

I wondered maybe tomorrow

Suddenly appeared a sparrow.

“Who protects you?” I ask

“And where do you store up seed for winter

You never seem to task”

He chirped to me

Singing a new song to be

“Do you see those trees over there?

I am the apple of my Father’s eye

Many of it’s fruit will fall and rot and die.

The same for the peach and the pear

There’s plenty to go around to spare.

I watched my brother

Listened to my mother.

Soon I learned for myself

And when comes the time

I won’t need anyone’s help.”

 ***********

I kept walking threw the woods

Now every sound

I understood.

The black bear

The white wolf

The spotted deer

They were all here.

That regal eagle

Those merciless hawks

The meek sparrow

They flew away like an arrow

With summer over

Fall is here

Winter is near

Today is suffice to say

Why worry about tomorrow

That’s a whole day away.

A pleasant philosophical tune sung of the birds, and I just love birds! xo Blessings,

A fine metaphor with Biblical wisdom inherent, Doug. Nicely written. I would argue, though, about Eagles being arrogant. haha Hoping you are well. Peace ... richard
