Last Judgment - Michelangelo

A little nonsense to shake up the
serious poets out there with all their
messages hidden in the minds of
their mysterious wordsmithing.

 Hark the Heralders

Hark the heralders from on high,
spew their messages, nay and nie.
Spew them on the wall of fate,
tales untrue and ignorant of late.

For what is love but just a lust,
turned tame and irony in the rust?
To mourn a flame that once was there,
in the dark of night with no light to share?

To blame our faults on someone else,
as though they caused such great pain.
When in truth we know,
we've only ourselves to blame.

Or to say it was an act of god,
to justify our natural fear.
To get the heat outside ourselves,
and hold our wrathful god so near.

To perpetuate a myth,
because it was always so,
is like saying that you don't think,
just blindly go where others go.

To follow lemmings off a cliff,
just to be part of the scene.
If I tell you that you're stupid,
I'm not trying to be mean.

We gather around our children,
and give them all of our best.
Make so many unwise choices,
it's a wonder they pass that test.

Of the able to carry on,
long after we are dust.
In that brave new world of the future,
that we worry about and distrust.

A sleepy poem. not bad.

What is love? Not a lot to do with religious heralders on high I fear. Because we can't love anybody until we get ourselves off the agenda, and no god as far as I'm aware has succeeded in luring us away from such solipsism. Guilt, lust, damnation, all these things are easy excuses for the sorts of serial behaviour we would be happier without.

Great that you've written a poem that made me think though, Ron. Doesn't happen every day.

Rarely one to be serious, I detect very little nonsense here. Therefore I am not particularly shaken mostly because I won't be sucked into pointless arguments pro and con about religious deities and their contradictory principles. People are shits and always will be. Color me firewood for the fiery furnaces of Hades. Patrick

Ron you are a deep thinker and often a very deep writer with messages tongue in cheek. Isn't it wonderful that we all have the opportunity to express our thoughts and beliefs? Truth is so infinite and we only possess little bits and pieces of it, that's why we can learn from each other and each poem is a precious treasure. Well penned.

I subscribe to the belief there is no non-empirical knowledge, so to argue there is no God is contradiction of that fundamental belief or a claim of knowledge beyond empirical knowledge - statements of intuition as this rendering surely is, if to be considered valid from one modal(as in logical modalities)intuition must be considered valid from the opposing modal intuition - so I view with interest your perspective and wonder how it is possible to hold as factual two opposing pieces of empirical knowledge(cognitive dissonance)at the same time since it is agreed by a majority there is no non- empirical knowledge - if I tell you that you're premise is flawed I am not being mean, 'Hark the Herladers' - as progressives proffer their interest and seek to secure support for a socialist agenda, theology is their target of choice and religious followers subjected to inferences of lesser intellect than atheist and agnostics, a factually baseless ploy that is intended to be mean - Ron, thank you for starting my day a notch or two above mundane with your rendering - I wish you love, peace and great joy, my dear friend - Jon Michael

Like them all, especially what seems to be the modern day mantra:

To follow lemmings off a cliff,
just to be part of the scene.
If I tell you that you're stupid,
I'm not trying to be mean.

I really liked this Ron, and especially the last two lines, 'In that brave new world of th efuture, that we worry about and distrust.' I feel it is very insightful of you to pinpoint that and put it into words. Maybe it is obvious to all but me, but I was slightly surprised and then recognized this to be truth in the next breath. Nice work. Be well, Kathy

Well, this is surely your trump card poem of poems, Ron. I think this well-crafted verse is of great substance and not a little nonsense. I admire that first stanza. It sets the stage for your delivery. Five start line for me is: "To get the heat outside ourselves." That just gleams. ~~ Diana

Tears of Deceit by Regis Schilken

A long-hanging crucifix brings fame and wealth to an old Gothic Church in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. Is it caused by human deceit or true divine intervention?..
