Peridot Eyes Part 4

Her cottage was furnished with antiques rare
imported from England, Scotland and France
She led him silently to her bedchamber where
scent of perfume was powerful to entrance
Heavy curtains and covers were brocade red
Portraits of beautiful women hung on the wall
In the center of the room a four-poster bed
Stirred his loins like a fire with its sensual call
He reached for her hand but she pulled away
and invited him to sit on the edge of her bed
“We have all night before the dawning of day”
He watched firelight play in her hair of red
“Ask questions now and never ask them again
no more questions after you touch my skin”


“Very well, My Lady, I shall play your little game
Who are these women staring down from the wall
Strangely they all seem to look almost the same
Very much like you, red-haired, curvaceous, tall
Each one has same mysterious eyes of peridot
a bow mouth drawn up in fetching, cryptic smile
“Oh, they are just deceased relatives, you know
Many have been departed for quite a long while”
“What of the sailing ship you wear in your hat
a curiosity, does your lost sailor have a name?”
“ Tis not for any lost seaman I always wear that
it’s to remind me of home from whence I came
Do you have more questions that burn your soul?
If not turn back the bed for the night is cold”
