The Toy Box
The family room toy box has gone silent,
Nestled away under a dark end table,
Originally toys for human children that
Were adopted by Clyde the cat in 1994.
Clyde was a black and white, tailless
Bundle brought home from the Bellevue
Humane Society on that December Day,
Issues made him declawed and homeless.
The toy box suddenly came to life, mostly
At night, sometimes during daytime too,
Heralded by a lot of mewing and gasping,
Each toy brought to us like a dead mouse.
After nineteen joy-filled years a sickened
Clyde had to move onto a better life,
So the plush toys are orphaned and quiet
As they await a new owner to claim them.
