I. Fifty-One Clicks

Out to the desert here I have come
Fifty-one clicks now where I am from

Or thirty-two miles and a few smiles
Away to stay the night anyway
But with tomorrow become today
I wonder now if I just might stay

Definitely indefinitely

Away a safe distance from trouble
Just enough from that Plaza bubble
I left bereft of a place to be
That maybe this is the place for me

Fifty-one clicks now where I am from
Out to the desert here I have come

II. Four Fattish Cats

Four fattish cats are courting me and want to win my favor
Cats who represent each one a favorite feline flavor
With a calico a tabby too a white cat they call Red
And a black cat who wears white socks (or do they wear him instead?)

III. Only Love Knows How

What is it we reach for
What is it above us
Striving all and each for
But someone to love us?

Someone who accepts how
We are both here and now
Who cares enough to say
How we are is OK

Not then but here and now
Today not yesterday
To love us anyway
When only love knows how

IV. For Marisol and Bowser

Dusty dogs rolling on the desert floor
Laughing at each other and the sky
After the sunrise another day more
As the flaming desert clouds roll by

Roosters are roistering goats start to yell
Time for it all to fire up again
The desert in sight in sound and in smell
Dusty dogs sense it is time to begin

V. What the Hell

What the hell I might as well be
This is it and this is me
In the desert doing fine
Living on the fly

Now I begin again
Living on peanuts and wine
Out for sun and fun
Again how I begin

Living simply living free
Somehow I get by
This is it and this is me
What the hell I might as well be
