Haibun format…

A day (and some time into the night) spent exploring Lake of the Woods, Laguna Meadows, and Big Laguna Lake; a high mountain domain once inhabited by the Kumeyaay Indians. Nature, and two hearts, in transition…

Silently Earth revolves. Sun descends. Spectrally nature shifts. Broadening shadows blanket dry October grasses. A vast landscape is slowly deprived of vividness. Subdued tones chalk out varying patterns.

During transition
A full array of colors
Diminish slowly

Minds yield to an awe of sunlight’s passing. Near the lake, sparrow-hawk, scrub-jay, mud-hen, and quail, interact in a salient chorus. Eventide becomes nighttime. Inky darkness obscures perception. Fingers interlace. Awareness’s become heightened.

Imagination
Creates various viewpoints
When light is withdrawn

A threshold is crossed. Thoughts rest now in permeant silence. All sense of outwardness lessens. Cool moistened air settles. The sound of crickets deepens. In serenity two spirits unfurl their wings. Together, without words, two minds take flight; nonpareil in the glow of an unsullied moon.

Love defers reason,
Searching the strata of life
Two souls become one

Stunning mental architecture Richard that shows your perceptive and sentimental side, in tandem together, just like the ubiquitous wild life you find in these remote, stunning and lovely vistas of the outback.

Always retain your thirst and passion for exploring my friend

This quiet poem slips along the page in grande language. Many lovely elements are contained in here, "...tones chalk out varying patterns," "Awareness's become heightened." I love "All sense of outwardness lessens." That one is a hushed slice of Basho Haibun; a nocturnal discipline. There is great tranquility in your poem that produces a calmness upon reading. Quite enjoyed this. ~~ Diana

"...two minds take flight; nonpareil in the glow of an unsullied moon..." With so many iterations of love to choose from, this embodies the scope and mystery of the phenomena. Nature seems to feed you regularly. Don't miss a meal.
