These are my children whom I love with all my heart and my little grandson; my fondest memory of my son was his first words for Santa Claus. He was merely 2 ˝ and was unable to say it so when we played Christmas songs on the guitar to get him excited about Santa I said who is coming? He said, “Santa sucks” … (the cl sound is not in their vocabulary yet lol)

Now you know the joy it’s there
a mother’s walk, a father’s care
from life’s first breath till college bound
Time is precious, so much to count

For now you know a mother’s joy
A father's pride he has his boy
never let a moment pass
for soon you'll find they grow so fast

And this dear children you will know
Experience here to tell you so
Write it down and wrap with care
for one day soon it will be shared

For I was there to wipe your tears
Mark your progress with smiles so clear
and so much words that you did learn
laughter shared when you did blurt!

The innocence of you so loved
a precious gift we all covet
hold them close my precious ones
for soon you’ll see how they grow up

Once again, you touch my heart/soul with your sentiments, Carol. I can so relate to this (as I weep for my son who does not talk to me any more). I relate to what you are expressing. Thank you. Love and best wishes to you,

Well directed language for how much love is possible from grandparent to grandchild, with the adult child in between. A love sandwich. Delicious. The flame of this piece for me is "The innocence of you so loved." It shines among these verses. ~~ Diana

Grandmothers pride, beautifully phrased in this poem.
A time to cherish and to enjoy for every single second

You named this poem rightfully "JOY! I can only sit here and wish, from the very bottom of my heart, that I was there for my children. That I was not is my greatest disappointment. This one kinda hurts. (Not your fault, Carol)
