drag race at high moon
stumbling feet
pedal to the metal
dust whirling cloud
romantic interlude
on the point
daring young hearts
boldly proud
white lines blur
engines roar revving
girl in silky blouse
blows a kiss
over thin air
like a goodbye
landing on stubble cheek
checkered square
in cheesy pants

rumble road
going to war
in faraway land
thunder turns into flashes
fire fights at high moon
bursting into hotel rooms
celebrating savagery
of vague notions
of love
amidst flowery gloom
freedom parlayed
over lunch
thick accented suits
talk loosely
lives held in sweaty hands
money is spoken
in foreign tongues

rumble road
like moon craters
rice paddied puddles
blown all to hell
silver wings in air
love the smell
napalm at high moon
parlors perfumed
opium stupors
views dimmed and confused
stunned hearts on the loose
balls to the walls
for another rumble
in the jungle
freedom a ruse
riding low tide
like convertible tops
back home

rumble road
overdriven mindless
chopper stoked madness
played loudly at dawn
silent at dusk
leaving shadows
of crosses
strown across landscape
of lost youth
dreaming of sweet girls
in silken blouses
blowing kisses
on the streets of war
now a wall of remembrance
names written in stone

rumble roads
