Little boy lost

In the deep dark recesses of his soul
There is a sad lonely little boy who
Desperately craves the attention and
Approval of anyone who passes

His insecurity is well covered
By the bold exterior that he shows
Sharing his words and experiences
With an effusive disregard for rules

He senses the underlying conflict
In others’ words and offers empathy
That sometimes breaches emotion’s barriers
While he silently screams his own torture

Often ignoring the love of those close
He seeks his release in hopeless gestures
That are so futile and soon disappear
Still leaving him to find life’s harmony
