The music sounds the same
The clothing/costumes are
unchanged
But I miss the smoke
the candles
the darkness
My own youth

The singer's framed
By space age art
But his songs remain
rooted
In the same hard-scabble
earth
That gave us
Woody
gave us
Pete
gave us
troubadors
Before and since.

The lady at the next table
Makes her jewelry
Fingers flying
She braids the hemp
With bits of quartz
colored beads
silver wire
Her body is at ease
While her spirit floats

In her Earth Mother mode
I knew her before her birth
We have known one another
Although we've never met
nor spoken
nor shared
A pastry with our coffees

Coffees that are now exotica
But lost their erotica
Served in an atmosphere
Reeking of good air
good health
good light
And me forced outside
for a smoke.

Friends don't let friends drink Starbucks.

Amusing picture and I enjoyed the written work. I was told once from a friend that he could picture me owning a coffee shop with books, art and music. I can picture me there reading the books, and enjoying the art and music :-) Are there any places like this left? and where?

You either take your mocha latte, or go outside and smoke a lot heh? As chain habits go, I still say Starbucks is worse than cigarettes -- though I know a lot of people with fake coughs who'd disagree. Nice.
