It's been nearly 2 years ago, Christmas Day--
When tragedy threatened to come our way.

Our little sister was nearly felled by a stroke,
And because of it, our hearts nearly broke.

The latest of a series of health woes, she had
This stroke, and it made all of us cry and feel bad.

Was just 8 years old then, a little bitty thing;
Her life was full of cheer, and she loved to sing!

The day started out bright, we celebrated her day;
She was another year older; she wanted to play!

We opened up gifts, sang those Christmas songs;
It seemed that nothing could possibly go wrong.

But then, during lunch, she began to wheeze aloud,
And the glee turned to gloom all around.

We knew she was in trouble, needed medical care;
She was giving all of us a fright, and a big scare.

We called for an ambulance, and we prayed hard;
It was such a relief when we saw it enter our yard.

But when the paramedics came, we were scared;
Little sister wasn't breathing, we weren't prepared.

They tried to revive her, tried hard to save her life;
Instead of Christmas cheer, we were feeling strife.

At the hospital, we waited for hours on end,
Unsure what the next few moments would send.

Eventually, a doctor came, had (kinda') good news,
Said our sister was fine, but her life she could lose.

She was in a critical condition, she was near death;
The news threatened to knock out my very breath.

But she was alive, he said pray for her today;
For prayer could definitely send hope our way.

Later on that day, we saw her in the P.I.C.U.
And the sight of her caused tears to ensue.

She was hooked up to tubes, looked quite dead,
And it filled all of us with a sense of fear and dread.

We didn't stay long, but we told her we were there,
We just wanted her to know that we all cared.

Suddenly, the alarms rang, gave out an awful noise;
And it scared the heck out of the smaller boys.

Our little sister lay in a bed; her small body was jerking;
And it was all I could do, to keep myself from "hurking".

We went back to the waiting area, in tears,
And we were facing one of our worst known fears.

The doctor came back, said it was bad;
Ronee' had a stroke; luck was about all she had.

We couldn't believe it..a STROKE?? NO WAY!!
She was just 8 years old, 8 years old TODAY!!

She was just a kid, just a innocent little girl;
Why were troubles always invading her world?

Little kids didn't have strokes; only old people did;
And at the news, our hearts took a terrifying skid.

But that was exactly what happened, she was ill;
And the news felt all wrong, felt like a bitter pill.

Merry Christmas. BAH HUMBUG! I would shout;
There was NOTHING merry here, I began to pout.

But she recovered, and a miracle was she..
Our little sister, and she was full of hope & destiny!

Ronee' has recovered completely from her stroke. She has no after-affects except for some mild numbness and tingling in her right side; but she can move her arm and leg without any problems whatsoever. It looks like she didn't even HAVE the stroke!

The doctors think the stroke was caused by either a broken blood vessel in her brain or the period from where she was without oxygen during the time when she had stopped breathing.

It's now been nearly 2 years since this episode in her life!!

Her birthday is ON Christmas Day, so she was granted a double miracle from the Lord God Above.
