How we dreamed those days of Innocence
when we dressed up for dances in the attic,
pretended we were twirling princesses
to the beat of Abba’s “Dancing Queen.”

We were girls who understood too soon
the fairytale would not come true for all
of us, and so we lived it then in full fashion
believing in grand times that were now.

One June to the next until we realized
dashing princes we had hoped would come
had not. Older now and wise, we listen to
yesterday’s music – “Winner Takes All.”
