Autumn has come

As the seasons change,
displaying colours of gold
Summer retreats seizing its
warmth and loveliness
Flowers of pink, purple and
blue, replaced
Withering leaves of yellow
and red fill their space
The aroma of sweet smelling
bouquets are dismissed
A crisp, cold sensation,
a scent of pine, enriched
Lingers in the air, symbolizing
it's time
Summer is gone,
Autumn has come.

Autumn to me, means a
whole bunch of things
Preparation, obligation,
devotion it brings
A busy time as kids
return to school
Prompts me to be stern,
still keeping my cool
Frustrating at times,
I have to admit
No sleeping late, at least
if I can help it.
I must be attentive
to the children's needs
The alarm goes off,
Mom's in the lead
Summer is gone.
Autumn has come.

This Season initiates
a hectic routine
Social functions, entailing
duty and obligation
The Church wants you here,
the kids need you there
The car is not home,
does this sound familiar?
Feeling compelled,
you immediately dive in
It seems, nothing is done
without your interaction.
Weighing you down
emotionally, and physically
A part still yearning
for summer's flexibility
Summer is gone,
Autumn has come.

Putting my best foot forward,
I persevere
It's all pretty standard,
this time of year
The commotion, frustration
and mild agitation
Reaffirms the reality
of this crazy season
Add this sickness that
we so bravely face
Take each challenge
we must embrace
A basket of mixed sensations,
we possess
An array of feelings,
puts us to the test
Summer is gone.
Autumn has come.

Don't be dismayed
as things start to revise
Hang in, be strong,
when life's a surprise
Nothing rarely remains
the same
Details and circumstances,
expected to change
Seasons, weather, lifestyles,
often rearranged
Enjoy each new day
with its altered appearance
Welcome the contrasts
with faith and hope
Take each step in stride,
a sure way to cope
Summer is gone,
Autumn has come.
