Beautiful Lonely Eyes Last Part [the lonely eyes]

When I arrive at the conservatory,
A note is on the bench.
Confused, I glance around.

No one is there.
I pick it up and hold it for a minute,
Feeling strangely empty.

Until I realize that his music does not spill out
Into the hallway as usual.
In fact, it is completely noiseless.

I pull apart the folds of paper in my hand.
“To the girl with the lonely eyes,” it says
Almost afraid of what I might find.

I open the note.
Inside is a flawless sketch of me,
Lonely eyes and all.

“Until we meet again”
Is written along the bottom
In perfect script.

I sit down,
Barely aware of what has happened to me.
His eyes and touch and his music have changed me.

Now I’m thinking of another pair of eyes that have made my own less lonely.
