there is a cold wind blowing in my soul
and chilly september winds blow and blow
while parts of our nation have a big hole
feelings of deep sadness are hard to let go

there is a cold wind chills me to the bone
and chilly september winds blow and blow
far too many were left lost and alone
feelings of bitter anger hard to let go

there is a cold wind making my eyes tear
and chilly september winds blow and blow
i cannot forget what happened last year
feelings of true forgiveness hard to let go

there is a cold wind making my bones ache
and chilly september winds blow and blow
freedom itself was tested at the stake
feelings of shock and horror hard to let go

there is a cold wind a cold wind indeed
and chilly september winds blow and blow
we are headed for war--they won't concede
feelings of revenge--revenge! hard to let go

there is a cold wind blowing in my soul
and chilly september winds blow and blow
how many more will end up on death's roll
feelings of retribution hard to let go
