black water
swirling
crashing on hidden rocks
standing beneath a statue
patron saint of fishermen
we both look to the sea
I am afraid
and she is not
she standing tall, bronze hair frozen
in a breeze of long ago
my own whipping in a frenzy
of salted sea breathe
I touch her skirt
for strength
she is so much wiser
she whispers in the tone of the tide
be not afraid
black water
crashes below on unseen rocks
I shiver
she
smiles the frozen smile of knowing
