It's not like me to feel this way,
To wonder if her touch would be
Like the wings of a butterfly,
The kind that flies across fields
Into the hot, summer wind

It's really not like me,
To lay awake at night wondering
If her hands, so fine, so soft
Would run through my hair,
Like raindrops vanishing at day break

It's certainly not like me,
To imagine the heat of her lips
Entering into mine - Like dewdrops
Dissolving into dawn's light,
Into the rose of a lavender sky

No, I'm not a believer in tenderness
That weighs upon the soul,
And rocks back and forth,
Like the heaving rhythms of the sea

But it is like me to lie to myself,
And curse the day I ever laid eyes
Upon her smile.

This is a beautiful piece of writing; romantic without being soppy it explores the emotion of desire and longing extremely well. I particularly like the butterfly image of the first stanza and the way the first three stanza's take the reader from day to night then dawn, a cycle of longing.. I look forward to reading more of the same. Great work Ron. Mal.
