Packing it In

Eyelids like a dam,
Holding back burning liquid fire
That originates from the depths of my being
As I pack.
No longer can I bear
To hurt the ones I Love
"better off without me",I say
They'll manage.
But who will pack their lunches,
Kiss bruises when they fall?
Who'll comb the knots from tresses entangled
With bubblegum and yesterday's breakfast syrup?
Eyes watch me from the doorway,
Fingers going to their mouths...
And I know I'll never do it.
Just my imagination,
Of what might have been.
I never even found the bags,
Nor would I know what to put in.
Tomorrow I'll Start All Over
Get up to face another day
Spent giving more than I can bear
But getting more....
Payback's not expected,
And valued so much more when it comes.
