Melissa Treviño - a tribute

I miss you greatly;
I can't believe you're gone.
I loved you secretly;
I tried to tell you once.

I put you on a pedestal
when we met at church youth group.
We never really talked that much;
You threw me for a loop.

Six years later, we found,
that friends we were at last!
We became confidants
as we talked for hours past.

Then one day I get a call.
Our old youth pastor's voice comes through:
"Melissa Treviño died last night.
Someone told me to tell you."

I'm numb; I carry on.
I feel nothing - not even sad.
I attend your funeral;
Producing ZERO-tears makes me so mad!

Two weeks pass, and then;
I pick up the phone & dial your number.
The line rings & rings,
then I remember your slumber.

I hang up the phone!
The floodgates open!
It hits me hard,
as my heart tears open!

You are not There;
We cannot talk.
I miss you Mel;
I feel so balked!

I see your face
everywhere I turn.
So many girls resemble you now
Oh blasphemy! - it makes me burn.

[Pause]

I stopped by your grave today.
I knelt down beside you.
I said my goodbye's:
"I'm going to miss you."

Nine months wasn't enough
for our friendship-rekindled.
We could have become more;
That wish slowly dwindled.

------------------
Melissa Treviño and I became friends for 9 short months before she had a car accident Friday, Dec 13, 1996. (alone, at 2am, in the middle of nowhere.)She was a Christian, of that I am sure. No one but her family and my family knew that we were friends 'again' and that came as a shock to everyone else... especially our youth pastor.
--------------------
I'd like some help with rewriting the 4th line to rhyme better. I hardly keep my meter, but my rhyme scheme is my trademark. (ABCB)
