You were a silent wonder to me,
Like the quiet memories of childhood,
Cold, but at home,
In the grace you fell from.

How you’d blanket a street
As you blanketed me
In the remorseless, endless gray,
That would give way
Only to night.

I can still remember making snowmen
With my parents,
In a time when life was all innocence.

And you brought me happiness.
Gave wishes that came true .
Sacrificed a thousand lives
To cover me in crystals,
Each one different.

And all I could hear
While you immersed me,
Was wind,
Drowning in the distance
Of winter.

The cold,
Soft,
Winter.

every poem i have read this season with regard to snow has bittersweet appeal as we have been robbed of same ... a predicted snowfall for this afternoon ... a mere 2 inches if we are lucky, pales in comparison to this piece. thank you very much for your delivery of some real snow. palpable piece of writing.
