What a tangled web we weave..
When we practice to deceive..

Years of making a name..
Years of proving
she is worthy..
of respect..
of love..
of trust..
Not so easy to do..
When you come from dirt..
Not dirt of the earth..
Dirt of the soul..
She feels like a walking cadaver..
A waste of human skin.
But she tried..
Thought she had made it..
Two sons.
Married fifteen years..
Baseball coach..
and so much more.
She had to prove
she could do it all..
Not just to herself..
But others..
Who never believed..
Never cared..
Never loved
anything about her.
She put her past
so far behind..
She did not want to think
of where she came from..
She just wanted to
forget and move on..
She didn't want to think of
White trash that
is how she felt..
Then it all came back
like a tidal wave..
Knocking her off her feet..
Saturating her mind
with memories..
Drowning her in pain..
Taking her.
Making her see and feel ..
like that child of long ago.
The child with
No hopes..
No dreams..
So she faced it..
And she changed.
So she is told.
Changed from the person
she invented..
To a person she
doesn't know..
She is so confused.
She doesn't recognize
this person she has become..
She only knows..
She HATES what she sees.
She hates what she does..
She is a fake..
She barely knows
how she feels .
She prays at times
God will take her..
End her misery..
But she knows
she is going to hell
She is her
own disappointment..
And has no one to blame
But herself.

Erica, so much here, heartbreaking, and yes, I also think many of us can see ourselves in this amazing piece, hard, very hard not to be affected by that "dirt of the soul", with your gifts as a Poet, you hold up a mirror to what we may be and it makes one want to scream, no, it has to change, has to get better... as i HOPE it will for any who feel as this, this is so damned powerful, hurts...
what a piece

"Dirt of the Soul".... wonderful, Erica. You write with expression of a TRUE artist. I cannot ency somebody as brilliant as you because one is merely blessed with it without being asked for it... they are just given this gift like you have.

Warm Love,

Erica is a remarkable poet. Many of these poems are from the gut and the heart. She feels , she writes it and she sends it. No grammar check or spell check, just the way it comes out. She has the talent to be great. Understand she writes as she thinks and feels, not what is necessarily proper. If I could just get her to iron shirts...

Great poem Erica.

Overcoming the odds to be more than what we are. That is pretty damn good.

"She had to prove
she could do it all.. "

??? Maybe she only needs to do some of it and not all ??? Doing it all, scary stuff.
