I walk beneath the highest branches
looking deeper past the bark…
Where through the ages history bleeds
within the tree her timeless mark.

Bound in circles yearly cycles
sometimes blooming, sometimes sleep…
It’s in the subtle blowing whispers
songs of secrets she must keep.

So resourceful, quite contented
in her stance she strikes a pose…
Goddess of the woodland creatures,
sanctity to poet’s prose.

Shade to fauna, moss, and grasses
soothing to my human skin…
Where just to rest beneath her leaves
refreshes mind and thoughts within.

There could be no other refuge
closer to the gates of God…
Than in her sacred shaded shelter,
knelt upon her skirted sod.

No cathedral ever carried
dignity or grace within…
To grant the soul such revelation
that it had been born again.
