I listed this verse under "crime" for it is, in my beliefs.
I wrote this many years ago and today upon reflecting in my attic of verses I found it. It is a premonition of sorts...one written by a young immortal jounalist way back....then.

*****************************

A Nation is Die'n

where is the future
what is the cost
wages of war
families lost
where is the answer
percentage of what
screw all the chances
what is the lot
figure the odds
of war and of peace
families broken
answers to these
on tongues that are crying
egos inflated
their nation is die'n
babies are frightened
parents are dead
eyes are wide open
visions of dread
future in limbo
ghosts being born
news keeping tempo
filming this storm
it could be us
all snug from afar
these are our babies
children of war
orphans anew
no moon, no stars
skies are all black
smells of the dead
war coming back
money in pockets
diplomacy, tact
eyes dead in sockets
giving it back
people for people
stop all the crying
hold hands for peace
there's a nation here die'n

These are words that should be on leaflets dropped across all shores - as another author here stated, "Peace is all that war defeats."

It seems that our enemies are really our friends. What? But again, you put it so marveously.

A prophet and poet who screamed the future and prayed it wasn't true. the attic's dust has not dulled the message, now if only the world would listen. Great write.

"A Nation Is Die'n". This author makes me proud of Humanity. I have enjoyed this poem. Its message, its form and its call. It is a poem that strikes reason and responsibility, - two precious pillars of society - and a vehicle to Justice.
I Salute you, Master Poet Susan Katryn Rowse.
