Shades Of Grey

You say you love me,
And I believe you,
I love you too...
But,
Not the same way...

Shades of Grey

I try to hold your hand,
But you pull away...
Every move,
A risk I take in vain...
Until I learn,
It causes me too much pain,
And I stop trying,
As you stop loving,
Was I wrong to stop waiting?

Shades of Grey

Now I found someone else to love me...
And you want to say I'm so bad,
But,
Where were you so long ago,
When your love made me cry
And it took someone else to wipe away the tears.
When you were so afraid,
It would mean that you were weak...

Shades of Grey

And they weren't afraid to hold my hand...
Or caress my cheek with their lips...
And they didn't think I was so bad,
In fact,
They told me I was beautiful,
And they said they loved me...
I believed them,
Just like I once believed in you-

Shades of Grey

Am I wrong?
Are you right?
When you let me go...
Wasn't I suppose to leave?
When you stopped loving me,
Didn't that mean I was free to find another?
And just because you bound me to you
through a golden ring,
We both wear but don't believe in,
Does that mean I must never be happy again?

Shades of Grey

Nothing is black or white,
Nothing all roses without the thorns,
No clouds without rain,
No sun without pain...
No way for me to stay,
My life has become just;

Shades of Grey

Retta, everything turns on the moment. Shade os grey are the ones that push their way to the front of you mind. Colors disappear somewhere in time. You are such a fine writer. I always enjoy reading you. bill

Thought provoking piece.
I share conversations with my children about this frequently. Many things in life are "grey"... Love, happiness, success. They come in differing degrees.

But some things are black and white... Honor, respect, character. These things, either you have it, or you don't.
When in your pursuit for the grey things, conduct yourself in a black and white manner, and your life will know little regret.
